Manteniendo el máximo respeto a la tradición, supo crear un sistema jurídico que era la expresión de ese nuevo espíritu y del pensamiento y las creencias de una sociedad a la que habrían de ser aplicadas sus normas. En orden al matrimonio, Justiniano procuró reconducirlo hacia los principios del cristianismo y la doctrina de la Iglesia católica, elevando la unión legítima a la dignidad de Sacramento, preservando su indisolubilidad y sustrayéndolo de su naturaleza de mera situación de hecho que puede disolverse del mismo modo que se contrae, ennobleciendo la institución matrimonial, enalteciendo la condición de la mujer, reforzando los lazos de familia, y siempre velando por los derechos y por los intereses de la prole, como fin último del matrimonio cristiano; o, mejor podríamos decir, del Sacramento del matrimonio cristiano. | One of the great merits of the Emperor Justinian I was adapting the old Roman principles and standards to new demands and new spirit: the Christian spirit. Maintaining the highest respect to the tradition, it was able to create a legal system that was the expression of this new spirit and thought and beliefs of a society to which they would apply its rules. In order to the marriage, Justinian sought to redirect it towards the principles of Christianity and the doctrine of the Catholic Church, raising the legitimate union to the dignity of Sacramento preserving its indissolubility and removing it from its mere nature of fact that can may be dissolved in the same way that it contracts, ennobling the matrimonial institution, exalting the status of women, strengthening the family ties, and always guarding over the rights and over the interests of the offspring, as last end of the Christian marriage; or, better we might say, of the Sacramento of the Christian marriage Contribuidor Universidad de Alcalá.
