This notoriety has brought with it a great deal of critical attention. However, the state of the sources of antiquity and the absence of monographic and detailed studies on the symphonia have caused that, to this day, the term is surrounded by more shadows than lights, being the subject of debate and being, in turn, the instrument on which more questions loom of the entire list, since its organological characteristics have not been described yet through an exhaustive analysis. This work, the first interdisciplinary monographic study of a certain length dedicated to this subject, aims to delimit the organological and musical characteristics of the symphonia of the Book of Daniel through a deep analysis of all the sources of Antiquity in which, clearly and without any doubt, this polysemic term appears with the meaning of musical instrument. The application of this exhaustive and interdisciplinary methodology has allowed us to obtain coherent and precise conclusions, far away, therefore, from the controversy that has traditionally accompanied this famous term and biblical musical instrument. | El término symphonia aparece en el último lugar entre los instrumentos musicales que son enumerados en los famosos listados de instrumentos del Libro de Daniel; tal vez, la agrupación musical más famosa de toda la Biblia. Esta notoriedad ha traído consigo una gran atención por parte de la crítica. Sin embargo, el estado de las fuentes de la Antigüedad y la ausencia de estudios monográficos y detenidos sobre la symphonia han provocado que, a día de hoy, el término esté rodeado de más sombras que luces, siendo objeto de debate y siendo, a su vez, el instrumento sobre el que se ciernen más interrogantes de todo el listado, pues todavía no han sido descritas sus características organológicas a través de un análisis exhaustivo. Este trabajo, el primer estudio monográfico, interdisciplinar y de cierta extensión dedicado a este tema, pretende delimitar las características organológicas y musicales de la symphonia del Libro de Daniel a través del análisis profundo de todas las fuentes de la Antigüedad en las que, claramente y sin ningún tipo de duda, aparece este término con la acepción de instrumento musical. La aplicación de esta metodología, exhaustiva e interdisciplinar, ha permitido obtener unas conclusiones coherentes y precisas, alejadas, por tanto, de la controversia que tradicionalmente ha acompañado a este famoso término e instrumento musical bíblico.
